Eat noodles, help raise money for cancer research

UMass Medical School community members who want to be the first to check out one of the area’s newest restaurants can also raise money for the UMass Medicine Cancer Walk at the same time.

Noodles & Company, a Denver chain of pasta restaurants, is officially opening one of its first Massachusetts locations on Wednesday, April 30, in the White City Plaza in Shrewsbury. To prepare for the official opening, the owners are inviting the UMMS community to come to an RSVP-only event the day before, Tuesday, April 29. The owners will donate 100 percent of the proceeds from the day to the UMass Medicine Cancer Walk.

The 16th annual Cancer Walk, which raises money for care and research at the UMass Medicine Cancer Center of Excellence, will take place on Sunday, Sept. 28, starting on the campus green.

Noodles & Company offers noodle dishes from all over the world, including Indonesian Peanut Sauté and Bangkok Curry, as well as soups, salads and flatbread. The company has 380 restaurants in the United States, but only one other in New England, located in West Hartford. The owners plan to open nine other stores in the Boston area over the next three years.
