UMass Medical School’s annual tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. highlights the commitment to service exemplified by the institution’s student body and workforce. This year’s 26th MLK celebration will be held on Monday, Jan. 27, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Faculty Conference Room on the Worcester Campus.
The keynote address, “Remembering Through Service: Everyone Can Be Great . . . Because Anybody Can Serve,” will be delivered by physician and health advocate Reed V. Tuckson, MD. Throughout his distinguished career, Dr. Tuckson (at right) has served in public health and cabinet-level advisory roles, as well as numerous medical leadership roles. He is the author of The Doctor in the Mirror, a book focused on patient empowerment to overcome everyday health issues. He is currently managing director of the health and medical care consultancy Tuckson Health Connections.
UMMS employees, faculty and students will also be recognized for service at the event. Winners of the Chancellor’s Awards for Advancing Institutional Excellence in Diversity and Civility, and the Martin Luther King Jr. Semester of Service Student Awards will be announced.
Registration for the event is requested, and can be done either online or by calling Fernanda Gama at 508-856-5121.
