The Advisory Council of the Massachusetts Health Policy Commission (HPC) held a meeting at UMass Medical School in the Albert Sherman Center on Wednesday, June 26. The meeting was open to the public.
The HPC is a new, independent state agency that monitors the reform of health care delivery and payment systems in Massachusetts. The agency will also develop policies to reduce the overall growth in health care costs and improve care for residents of the commonwealth.
The HPC’s Advisory Council brings together a wide range of health care leaders to help guide the work of the commission. Joyce A. Murphy, MPA, executive vice chancellor of Commonwealth Medicine, was recently named to the Advisory Council and delivered the welcome remarks at the public meeting.
Prior to the noontime meeting, Chancellor Michael F. Collins and School of Medicine Dean Terence R. Flotte led a tour of the Sherman Center for leaders of the HPC and members of the Advisory Council. The tour highlighted the Medical School’s leadership in transforming primary care education, and its efforts to improve health care quality through experiential learning in the interprofessional Center for Experiential Learning and Simulation (iCELS).
