Physicians and scientists Drs. April Deng, Laura Lambert, Mary Maloney and Corrie Painter are women who confront skin cancer in their careers. They will share their expertise in the importance of skin care and prevention of skin cancer in “Bench to Bedside in Skin Care,” a panel discussion being held at UMass Medical School in recognition of Women’s Health Month on Friday, June 14.

Bench to Bedside Skin Care experts
April Deng, MD, PhD, is associate professor of pathology and dermatology and director of the Dermatopathology Service and Fellowship Program at UMass Memorial Medical Center. Specializing in skin pathology, she diagnoses and treats patients, is researching advanced molecular technology to diagnose melanoma and teaches dermatopathology to medical students, residents and fellows.
Laura Lambert, MD, assistant professor of surgery in the division of surgical oncology, treats patients with melanoma and soft tissue sarcoma in addition to her primary clinical focus on peritoneal cancers. Recently board certified in palliative care, she now provides both surgical and non-surgical palliative care for patients with advanced cancer.
Mary Maloney, MD, professor of medicine and chief of the division of dermatology and director of dermatologic surgery for UMass Memorial Medical Center, treats skin cancer patients every day and is a passionate national spokesperson for the American Academy of Dermatology and a recognized leader in training dermatology residents and fellows.
Corrie Painter, PhD, GSBS ’11, is a postdoctoral fellow in the laboratory of Craig Ceol, PhD, assistant professor of molecular medicine, where she is studying the role of the adaptive immune system in melanoma. A survivor of the rare cancer angiosarcoma, she is vice president and chief scientific officer of Angiosarcoma Awareness Inc.
