Local scientists and community members are coming together for “NOVA presents: Science Café Woo,” on Monday, May 20, 6 pm, at NU Café, 335 Chandler Street, Worcester.
MIT Professor Pawan Sinha, PhD, professor of vision and computational neuroscience, will present “Illuminating Lives, Illuminating Science."
Science Café Woo will meet at 6 p.m. on the third Monday of each month at the NU Café. The purpose is to provide the local community with an opportunity to engage in an open dialogue with local scientists about the science happening in their area, the discoveries they have made and the relevance of their work to society. The events are free and open to the public.
The events are being organized by UMMS postdoctoral associates Ana Maldonado-Contreras, PhD; Elena Merino-Rodriguez, PhD; Sanchaita Das, PhD; Payal Patel, PhD; and graduate students Kelly Hallstrom and Andrew Coles.
“We aim to demystify science by bringing together local scientists and the public to discuss how science applies to everyday life,” Maldonado-Contreras said.
