Chancellor Michael F. Collins and UMass Memorial Health Care President and CEO Eric W. Dickson invite the UMass Medical School and UMass Memorial communities to take part in a moment of silence for the Boston Marathon victims at 2:50 p.m. today.
They released the following statement this morning:
The unimaginable tragedy that occurred at the finish line of the Boston Marathon last week, and during the subsequent pursuit of the suspects, was a heartbreaking reminder of how quickly our world can change. Members of our own academic health sciences center family were injured in the marathon attack. We cannot help but feel a grievous sense of empathy and loss for the people and the communities shattered by this senseless event.
Along with many other institutions and individuals across the country, we will observe a moment of silence at 2:50 p.m. today in order that we may reflect on this event, remember the victims, and pay tribute to the brave law enforcement and medical professionals, including members of our own faculty and staff, who saved lives in the moments after last week’s attack.
We invite you to participate later today in this shared remembrance.
