On behalf of the physicians and staff of UMass Memorial Health Care and the faculty, staff and students of UMass Medical School, we send heartfelt thoughts and prayers to all those affected by today’s tragic events in Boston. Our deepest sympathies go to those who lost loved ones in this tragedy. We are grateful for the heroism of the first responders at the scene and the dedicated caregivers treating the injured and their families. We are relieved to report that UMass Memorial clinical staff who were stationed at the Marathon’s medical tent are all safe and accounted for. Likewise, we are relieved that the six runners supporting the UMass ALS Champion Fund are also safe. The Red Cross has established a website -- redcross.org/safeandwell -- for those in Boston today to list themselves as safe so that friends and family can learn of their situation. Please note that due to high volume, the Safe and Well site is experiencing slow page loads at this time. Please be patient and continue to check back. In addition, the City of Boston set up the Mayor’s Hotline (617-635-4500) for people looking for loved ones who may have been in Boston.
We know what an incredible achievement it is to cross the finish line in Boston. Our thoughts also go out to the athletes who today in this competition demonstrated endurance, perseverance and the triumph of the human spirit. May their example inspire us all in the difficult days ahead.
