Mindfulness pioneer Jon Kabat-Zinn returns to campus for talk

Reception and book signing to precede ‘What Makes Us Human!’

Jon Kabat-Zinn, PhD—UMass Medical School’s own pioneering mindfulness practitioner, writer and teacher—is coming to campus for a talk and book signing. He was the founding director of the UMMS Center for Mindfulness, Health and Society and founded the world-renowned Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction program. He is the author of Full Catastrophe Living: Using the Wisdom of Your Body and Mind to Face Stress, Pain and Illness; Wherever You Go, There You Are: Mindfulness Meditation in Everyday Life; and many other titles. Dr. Kabat-Zinn is professor emeritus of medicine. 

 

In addition to the talk “What Makes Us Human! Exploring Inner Experience and Relationality in Medicine, the Humanities, and Mindfulness,”Kabat-Zinn will be signing copies of his latest book, Mindfulness for Beginners: Reclaiming the Present Moment and Your Life, which will be available for purchase.

Presented by the Humanities in Medicine Committee of the Lamar Soutter Library and the Worcester District Medical Society on Wednesday, May 16, the book signing and reception will take place from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the Medical School lobby, followed by the talk at 6:30 in the adjacent Faculty Conference Room.
