Reduced price tickets are available from the Humanities in Medicine Committee for the May 5 performance of “Love Alone.”
The Humanities in Medicine Committee is organizing a trip to the Trinity Repertory Company Theater in Providence to see "Love Alone," a new play by Deborah Salem Smith. “Love Alone” is about the consequences of a routine medical procedure after it goes tragically wrong, transforming the lives of both the patient’s family and the doctor charged with her care.
Following the performance, the playwright and David Hatem, MD, clinical associate professor of medicine, and a longtime member of the committee who advocates for incorporating humanities into medical training and practice, will lead a conversation about the themes presented in “Love Alone.”
“This play describes what happens around medical mistakes like no other medium I have seen,” said Hugh Silk, MD, clinical associate professor of family medicine & community health and creator of the popular Thursday Morning Memos narrative medicine program at UMass Medical School, who organized the theater trip with Worcester Family Medicine Residency director Stacy Potts, MD, assistant professor of family medicine & community health.
Fifty tickets for the Saturday, May 5, performance at 7:30 p.m. have been set aside for the UMMS group at reduced prices of $35 for faculty and residents, and $15 for students. The deadline to reserve tickets is Monday, April 9. To RSVP and obtain a list of attendees who may be interested in car pooling, email Hugh.Silk@umassmemorial.org.
