UMass President Robert L. Caret stopped in Worcester on Wednesday, Oct. 12, as part of his four-day, statewide bus tour. He met with city business and government leaders, visited the Parkway Diner and toured North High School, home to the offices of the Worcester Pipeline Collaborative, a partnership between UMMS and numerous education, community and business affiliates. The listening tour started on Monday, Oct. 10, in North Adams and will finish on Thursday, Oct. 13, in Boston.
President Caret, who is traveling in a donated bus adorned with University of Massachusetts banners, said he was pleased with the trip so far. “People have been receptive to the message that education needs more support and we’ve been very receptive to listening to them with lots of good ideas as to how we can do a better job for different parts of the state,” said Caret.
Caret said the Medical School is a great example of how the University can serve “as an economic hub, an educational hub and a social hub for the region. What we’re asking on this tour is, in parts of the state where that is not happening as well, how can we help make it happen.”
