The UMMS training series Accommodating, Managing and Recruiting Employees with Disabilities reflects the theme of National Disability Employment Awareness Month, which is “Profit by Investing in Workers with Disabilities.” |
October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month, a national initiative that raises awareness about strategies for including people with disabilities in the workplace and celebrates the many and varied contributions of America's workers with disabilities. In support of that awareness effort, the UMass Medical School Disability Committee of the Council on Equal Opportunity and Diversity, and Work Without Limits, an initiative of Commonwealth Medicine, will offer the second annual training series Accommodating, Managing and Recruiting Employees with Disabilities beginning in October.
The three-part series is designed to provide managers and supervisors with insight into understanding the perspectives of employees with disabilities, positive examples of successful employees with disabilities, examples of reasonable accommodations that may be provided, and resources for recruiting, hiring, retaining and promoting qualified individuals with disabilities.
Sessions will be offered on both the Worcester campus and on the South Street campus in Shrewsbury. Session I will provide training on identifying and providing reasonable accommodations; Session II will cover human resources processes for managing performance; and Session III will familiarize participants with internal and external resources for recruiting qualified applicants with disabilities. To register, email Nellie Toney, Nellie.toney@umassmed.edu. Participants will receive certificates of completion at the end of the series; participation at each session is limited to 25 people.
