On Wednesdays, the Daily Voice introduces you to a student or resident at UMass Medical School. We’ve asked our subjects to answer a few questions that reveal a little of their personalities. If you know someone who you’d like to see profiled, let us know at UMassChanCommunications@umassmed.edu.

Why did you choose UMass Medical School?
Three reasons: location, excellent teaching and fewer loans. Location, because it is close to my immediate and extended family, all of whom live in Worcester. Excellent teaching, which turned out to be even better than I had anticipated. Fewer loans because this gave me the option of doing something in the future that I would really enjoy versus choosing a specialty based on compensation.
Describe yourself in six words or fewer.
I think of myself as an introvert, like to think a lot, like to talk less, always enjoy doing rather than passively participating, moderately adventurous, love spending time with people.
If you were stranded on a deserted island, name three things you would want.
A match, a blank notebook and a pen or pencil.
If you could have dinner with a famous person, living or dead, who would that be and why?
Leonardo da Vinci. I would love to see firsthand how he thought about the world, and maybe get a few painting lessons.
What person or experience made you decide to become a doctor and why?
My pediatrician. I thought she was so comfortable, relaxed and knowledgeable. I also thought the gloves that she wore were so cool and somehow imagined myself in her position ever since I can remember.
What is the most interesting or challenging job (paid or unpaid) you’ve ever had and what did you learn about yourself?
I worked as a research associate in a pharmaceutical company and loved doing experiments. It felt like I went to work every day to play with pipettes and gels. And, I loved the perks of the job—yoga classes at noon time and visiting different U.S. cities to attend scientific conferences.
What would your fellow residents be surprised to learn about you?
I paint.
If residency at UMass Medical School had not been an option, what would you be doing right now?
I would probably be doing basic science research somewhere.
If you could change the world as a physician, what would you like to do?
Improve the efficiency with which hospitals operate.
Most surprising thing you’ve found out about being a resident?
I can do it.
Most surprising thing you’ve discovered about Worcester?
It’s a great place to live if you’re surrounded by family and friends.
