A new designer drug containing amphetamines and marketed legally as “bath salts” is causing havoc in some parts of rural New England. On Wednesday, Aug. 10, the hosts of WBUR’s RadioBoston sat down with law enforcement officials and health care experts, including Christopher Rosenbaum, MD, assistant professor of emergency medicine, to talk about the dangers posed by these designer drugs, which users can crush up and snort. Dr. Rosenbaum, a toxicologist, explained how the chemicals in bath salts can cause violent and dangerous outbursts in some patients.
