Members of the UMass Medical School community are invited to learn more about the UMass Medicine Cancer Walk at one of several information sessions scheduled for July. Ten launch meetings scheduled at four locations between July 11 and 21 will help new and returning team leaders and walkers get started on their vital recruitment and fundraising efforts well before the walk, which will take place rain or shine on Sunday, Sept. 25.
“Drop by any of the sessions to be inspired and learn more about the importance of being involved,” said event manager Laura Liston. “By raising money for the Cancer Walk, we can all be a part of the life-saving mission of the UMass Medicine Cancer Center of Excellence.”
Last year, employees of UMass Medical School and UMass Memorial Health Care collectively raised more than $127,000 to support the vital research under way at the Cancer Center. This year’s goal is to exceed that total by encouraging and supporting an early start to fundraising.
Those unable to attend can contact the Cancer Walk staff at cancerwalk@umassmed.edu or 508-856-2589 to receive fundraising supplies. Cancer Walk staff can also answer questions about organizing teams and soliciting contributions. To learn more visit http://www.umassmed.edu/cancerwalk/index.aspx.
