Disability Evaluation Services staff aid African immigrants in need

When Disability Reviewer Irene Wanjiku met several families from Africa who had recently come to the United States from their war-torn countries, she recognized immediately their need for basic necessities, such as food and clothing. “I met them at church,” said Wanjiku. “They were very cold. Some of them didn’t have shoes and they didn’t have sweaters. Through casual conversation I learned that they had a lot of problems.” Wanting to help, Wanjiku and her Disability Evaluation Services (DES) colleagues Jill Graham, disability reviewer, and Kathleen Nichols, customer service representative, recruited the entire DES staff to help. Hear them tell their story in this video.
