Office of Human Resources auction raises $1,371 for Walk to Cure Cancer

Members of the Office of Human Resources raised $1,371 in support of the Walk to Cure Cancer during an auction that sold 79 donated items, including handmade crafts, local restaurant gift certificates and the use of a party bus, which was valued at $700.
Anne Archibald won the party bus with a bid of $150. When asked what she planned to do with the four-hour rental, which includes a driver, she said she is considering a trip to Salem, Mass., on Halloween with her costumed friends.
Auctioneers Kevin Deignan and Lee Morin enjoyed coordinating the bidding at this annual event. Additional auction items included: stuffed teddy bears, jewelry, a hand-made doily, Vera Bradley pocketbooks, festive baskets, a space alien blow-up doll, a color printer, sports memorabilia and gift certificates to Olive Garden, Dunkin Donuts and Panera Bread.

The co-chairs of the HR Walk to Cure Cancer team, Robin Pollier, Anita Garabedian and Michelle Deignan, also created other means of raising money for the walk: They arranged for Bertucci’s Restaurant to donate 10 percent of the total spent by diners on Sept. 21 toward the Walk to Cure Cancer; sharp-eyed gum connoisseurs bought chances to guess how many pieces of gum were in a large vase (the most accurate guesser will win the entire vase of gum); and the department sold ribbons of many colors, each color designating a specific type of cancer. These tickets and cancer ribbons are still available and can be bought up until the end of the day on Friday, Sept. 24, in HR, which is located at the South Street campus in Shrewsbury.
