Message from the chair

Welcome to the Department of Neurology at UMass Chan Medical School located in the heart of Central Massachusetts.

We are committed to providing the highest quality care for patients with neurological disorders while supporting families and improving quality of life. The holistic approach includes focusing on the entire aspect of well-being, which is often impacted by neurological disease. In support of the clinical mission, there is a robust basic science and clinical research enterprise focusing on changing the course of diseases such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, stroke and Parkinson's disease.

At UMass Chan, scientists have identified specific targets for gene therapy and brought these tools to the bedside to develop disease modifying therapies. The integration of the basic science and clinical research arms allows for seamless translation of potential treatments.

UMass Chan is also committed to training the next generation of leaders in neurology. Medical students, residents and fellows benefit from significant education and mentorship by faculty. Trainees have the opportunity to learn the method of translational research, complementing classroom and bedside teaching. Besides close collaborations with other departments at UMass Chan, there are rich connections with other hospitals and departments in Central Massachusetts, which includes an extensive telehealth system. Our department is also deeply committed to diversity and inclusion so as to reflect the communities we serve and eliminate disparities in care.

We welcome you to explore this website and learn more about the clinical, research, and training programs at UMass Chan Medical School, which reflect a broad range of areas of expertise and opportunity. Please reach out to us with any comments or questions.
