"Springing" Forward
I hope you are all well and are looking forward to longer daylight as we “spring ahead” this coming weekend marking what’s to come, the start of Spring, or the Vernal equinox on March 20th.
First, I would like to take a moment to recognize and wish those a Happy International Women’s Day, observed on March 8th and Women's History Month, celebrated throughout the month of March.
Next, I would like to congratulate the recent promotions and new leadership roles within the Department: Kimberly Fisher, MD, Division of Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care, as Research Core Oversight Chair, Chinmay Trivedi, PhD, Division of Cardiovascular Medicine, as Director Cardiovascular Medicine Research and Meghna Trivedi, MD, Division of Hospital Medicine to Associate Physician Quality Officer.
On a critical front, I want to thank the 50 faculty, staff, and trainees who contributed to our Diversity Task Force meetings. With a particular shout out to Dr. PY Fan, our Education Vice Chair, who led this effort. Alongside this, I hope folks consider applying to our recently announced opportunity, Senior Leader for Diversity, Inclusion, and Social Justice which will be a .2 FTE position and will help us advance our diversity efforts within the Department.
March 19th is match day. We are excited about the number of fantastic applicants and appreciate the efforts that have been invested in the recruitment of these great candidates. We can't wait to see the results. A special thank you to all the faculty and staff who conducted this mammoth effort particularly, Drs. Kopec and Murphy! To note, we are aware of some of the recent developments around the internal medicine residency and the discussions of unionization. As we receive more information and learn about the implications to our system and department, we will keep you informed.
Lastly, we hope that you will attend the Department of Medicine Faculty Meeting on March 16th. This meeting will be jam-packed with important information as well as an opportunity to ask questions and provide input. If you have not already done so, please send your questions, comments and concerns to domcommunications@umassmemorial.org.
Thank you,
Dave
