Dear Colleagues,
It is with great pleasure that I write to you this month with a few exciting announcements and updates. In late August, Dr. Terrell Johnson, our new co-director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Social Justice and clinician in the Division of General Internal Medicine, joined us in the Department of Medicine. Along with Dr. Yoel Carrasquillo-Vega, Dr. Johnson will lead DEI efforts, working with faculty, trainees, and staff in our department. Please join me in welcoming Dr. Johnson!
I am also delighted to highlight the work of Dr. Margret Chang in this month’s Chair’s Spotlight. Dr. Chang is an assistant professor of medicine, attending physician, and the medical director of the Office Based Addiction Treatment Program at Tri-River Family Health. Over the last five years, Dr. Chang and her team have built the program up from treating under 20 patients by individual providers to now having over 100 patients in the program that operates in a primary care setting with a team-based approach. Of this work she said, “The ability to be with patients who may feel a great deal of shame about their addiction, and to say to them, ‘I can help you right here in my primary care office’, that is what I love about this work.” Read more about Dr. Chang and the Office Based Addiction Treatment Program.
Finally, over the next couple of weeks, we will begin this year’s Medical Grand Rounds and Research Seminar series featuring local, national, and internationally renowned clinicians, scientists, and thought leaders. Last year we had a particularly diverse array of topics and presenters, and we anticipate another year of exceptional presentations in both series. Please mark your calendars and plan to attend as many of these seminars as you are able. You may view the schedule for these and other departmental events here.
