Scot Wolfe part of collaborative team to receive funding to advance gene editing approach for neuromuscular disease

Date Posted: Friday, March 01, 2024

Scot Wolfe, PhDScot Wolfe, PhD, is part of a multidisciplinary research team at UMass Chan—including RTI faculty Jonathan Watts, PhD, Erik Sontheimer, PhD, and Wen Xue, PhD—to receive funding to develop paired prime editors to treat Friedreich’s Ataxia, a rare, genetic neuromuscular disease. Their gene editing approach is designed to correct the DNA repeat expansion in the FXN gene, offering a promising therapeutic approach that addresses the root cause of the disease. The team recently received a 1-year grant co-sponsored by the Friedreich’s Ataxia Research Alliance and the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
