Clearing an Attempt

Video Transcript

Students may sometimes lose their internet connection at the beginning of an exam. Sometimes they accidentally click on an exam a few days early, submit the wrong version of an assignment, or do something else that Blackboard logs as attempt on an assessment. If there is only one allowable attempt on the assessment, this can stop a student from completing the assessment without help. This can be frustrating for a student or for an instructor, and might lead to confusion or concern as to how to fix the problem. Fortunately, Blackboard makes it easy to clear an unwanted attempt. To clear an attempt, first navigate to the course with the unwanted attempt. Scroll down the page until you see the link to the Grade Center on the left-side navigation bar. Click on “Grade Center.” Then click on “Full Grade Center.” Scroll left through the grade columns until you see the column for the assessment with the unwanted attempt. Scroll down the column for the assessment until you see the unwanted attempt. Hover your cursor over the unwanted attempt and click the arrow that appears to the right of the attempt. Click “View Grade Details.” Towards the bottom of the page that opens are details on the attempts made by the student that include the date of the attempt, and areas for points earned and instructor feedback. To the right of these details are buttons. Click the button labeled “Clear Attempt.” Click “OK” to delete the attempt.
