Virtual Microscopy

Virtual Microscopy Slide - Skin and/or surface epithelium, Skin structure, Monkey (Monkey)

Virtual Microscopy is a collection of high-resolution diagnostic quality image slides which are digitally captured. This technology was initially pursued because the school's glass slide collection is aging.  Digitizing slides preserves the UMass Chan slide collection, some of which are irreplaceable.

We currently have a collection of 475 UMass Chan-owned digital slides, as well as slides from other Universities via Virtual Microscopy Public Collections that brings the collection to over 600 slides.

Using this emerging technology encourages group learning as several students can view one image simultaneously.

Students will find their Virtual Microscopy slides linked from within their Blackboard Learn course.
