Announcement regarding Covid-19 and CME Certification Courses (BLS, ACLS, PALS, ATLS)

On site certification courses are currently offered for UMass Chan Medical School, Tan Chingfen Graduate School of Nursing and Morningside Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences students, GME (residents/fellows) and clinical staff at UMass Memorial Health.

Virtual courses (when offered) are open to learners from outside institutions.

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
    • In order to certify in ACLS, the learner must have a valid BLS certification
    • ACLS Retraining Course (e-ACLS + 3 hour Skills Session)
    • ACLS +  Moderate Sedation Training with AHA ACLS recertification
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
    • In order to certify in PALS, the learner must have a valid BLS certification
    • PALS Initial Course (e-PALS + 8 hour Skills Session)
    • PALS Retrain Course (e-PALS + 4 hour Skills Session)
  • Basic Life Support CPR for Healthcare Provider (BLS)
    • BLS Physical Distancing option!! e-BLS+ 20 minute in person self directed skills test!!!!!
    • BLS Initial Course (e-BLS + 3 hour skills test) TBD
    • BLS Retraining Course (e-BLS + 1.5 hour Skills Session) TBD

Certification Cards

ATLS & FCCS receives a pdf card upon the completion of the course.

Moderate Sedation does not have cards.  Medical Staff Services will be notified by OCME after the completion of the course.

BLS and ACLS courses using RQI.  After completing the skills session, on your personal devise go into your RQI1stop account https://umasshc.rqi1stop.com click on your active courses, click on the blue review button, complete the survey. You can then obtain your card.

PALS & the ACLS portion of Moderate Sedation Courses. E-cards are emailed to the learners within 2 business days.  

Rosters submitted to the UMass Chan OCME AHA Community Training Centers for BLS, ACLS, HeartSavers, & PALS courses.  E-cards are emailed to the learners within a week of the order and rosters received.

  1. Check your junk mail if you don’t see it, in you’re in box.
  2. Go into your trash or deletes if you think you may had deleted the email to retrieve it.
  3. Please remember to forward the PDF card to your employer/coordinator/medical Staff Services and save it to your personal devise.
  4. If you can not find this email, email Continuing.Education@umassmed.edu to resend your card.
  5. If you have already claimed your card and you need a copy of it within the expiration date. Go to www.heart.org/cpr/mycards

e-Learning for AHA courses:

  • BLS and ACLS courses using RQI: The learner receives an email from RQI1stop notifying the learner that there’s an assignment in their RQI1stop account.
  • PALS and ACLS portion of Moderate Sedation:  The learner will be emailed a link from eLearning.heart.org
  • All e-Learning emails will be sent 2 weeks prior to the selected skills session date, which is indicated under Order Details of your confirmation.  For registrations received within 2 weeks of the selected course the email will be sent by 1 business day.
  • It takes around 1-2 hours to complete BLS e-learning and 4-5 hours to complete ACLS and PALS e-learning. Please DO NOT start e-learning the night before, you may not have time to complete it, or something may come up unexpected that prevents you from completing it.
  • Per AHA guidelines, you will not be able to attend the skills session without completing e-learning materials.

  • For assistance with e-Learning materials from eLearning.heart.org, please contact the American Heart Associations customer service line at 1-888-242-8883.
  • or email them at help@onlineaha.org. Their office is open from 8am-5pm on weekdays, and they can provide technical support for any problems related to the online course.
