Assessment Services & Consulting

The interprofessional Center for Experiential Learning and Simulation (iCELS) at UMass Chan Medical School offers an exceptional depth of resources and professional services grounded in the expertise of medical and nursing educators and researchers. We can provide a wide range of services to those programs needing assistance in developing educational programming utilizing simulation.

iCELS collaborates with the UMass Chan Medical School's Office of Institutional Research, Evaluation and Assessment (IREA), which provides:

  • Standardized testing
  • Performance-based assessment
  • Exam development and scoring
  • Survey development
  • Data archiving and analysis, using a full range of quantitative and qualitative tools
  • Consultative expertise for educational research and innovation

In partnership with the Center for Academic Achievement, the iCELS also provides diagnostic learner assessment and remediation programs. Programs aim to improve learner performance in a range of areas including:

  • Test-taking
  • Study skills
  • Communication skills
  • Clinical problem solving

iCELS staff collaborate with UMass Chan Medical School departments and faculty and community providers on all proposed uses for the facility. Our staff offers a depth of specific expertise in clinical, collaborative and communications skills training, Standardized Patients, simulation technologies, and research.  Specifically, we provide consultation and support in:

  • Customized curriculum and assessment development
  • Faculty development, technology training
  • Logistical development and implementation
  • Reporting and interpreting learning outcomes

Users also can advance their scholarly efforts by collaborating with staff on related research.
