The Clery Act
In the 1980s, Jean Clery was a college student in Pennsylvania where she was raped and murdered in her dormitory. At the time, there was not a central location where college and graduate school applicants and their families could see campus crime statistics.
With her parents taking an advocacy role with Congress, we now have the so-called federal Clery Act, named after the student, which requires that campus crime statistics be accessible in a central location.
