This is an overview of the different life events you might experience and the impact those events have on your benefits with UMMS.
When you enroll in benefits as a new employee you are not allowed to make changes until the next Open Enrollment period. However, if you have a qualified Change in Family Status you may be able to make changes to your benefits.
Open Enrollment for Health Insurance, Health Insurance Buyout Option, Dental Insurance, Vision Insurance, Flexible Spending Accounts and Sick Leave Bank is in April/May for a July 1 effective date.
Open Enrollment for the Health Insurance Buyout Option and MetLaw is in October/November for a January 1 effective date.
- Change in Hours Worked and Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) Status
- Dependents Ages 19 to 26
- Death of an Employee
- Leave of Absence
- Leaving the University
- Newly Benefited Employees
- Transfer to/from another UMass Campus, State or Municipal Agency
- Turning Age 65
