The Mission and History of the Wellstone MDCRCs

There are six Senator Paul D. Wellstone Muscular Dystrophy Cooperative Research Centers (MDCRCs) currently supported by the NIH. These centers engage in integrated basic, translational, and clinical research on muscular dystrophies, and provide resources that are useful for the entire muscular dystrophy research community.  The Wellstone Center based at UMass Chan Medical School – which also includes investigators from Boston Children’s Hospital, Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Ohio, and the University of Utah – focuses on FSHD. It is funded by the NIH Eunice Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD).
