Glucose and insulin tolerance tests in conscious mice

For glucose tolerance test, mice are fasted overnight, and glucose (1 or 2 g/kg body weight) will be bolus administered (ip or iv) into awake mice. For insulin tolerance test, mice are fasted for 5 hrs, and insulin (0.25 or 0.5 U/kg body weight) will be administered (ip or iv) into awake mice. Blood samples are taken at 10, 20, 30, 60, 90 and 120 min following injection for measurement of plasma glucose and insulin concentrations.
