Effective March 1, UMass Memorial Radiology group began providing professional  radiology services for Marlborough and Clinton Hospitals on a fulltime 24/7 basis.    Leveraging technology, the group will utilize an  innovative workflow in which all  imaging studies are read 24/7 by sub-specialized  radiologists, distributed  throughout our growing network, while also providing on-site  presence for real time  consultative services and interventional procedures at Clinton  and Marlborough.  “We are effectively bringing the cumulative expertise of 55 sub specialized  radiologists to the community setting”, explains Darren Brennan MD, the recently  appointed Vice-Chair of Community Radiology, and Chief of Radiology at Marlborough Hospital. “If you obtain your imaging study at one of our community sites, it will be acquired using the same exacting technical parameters as one done in the main hospital campus, it will be read by the same specialist and the imaging and reports will be available to all your Doctors. You just don’t have to deal with the traffic or parking in Worcester”.  In addition to bringing clinical expertise, additional important integral components of the group practice such as Quality assurance/Improvement, protocol design, innovative dose reduction strategies and  workflow optimization will be extended to the community sites.  This will be achieved by a seamless integration of clinical services , all while endeavouring to maintain for  patients at these sites the same community ambience that is so alluring. “It really is a win-win situation” adds Brennan.

Professional Imaging services at both sites were previously provided by Marlborough Radiology Associates, two members of which, Dr. Brian Brochu and Dr. Ron Garrell have joined Umass Memorial Radiology group. (Dr. Brochu has joined our musculoskeletal division, and Dr. Garrell has joined our Emergency Radiology Division). UMass Memorial Radiology is grateful for the help and guidance that Drs. Brochu and Garrell have generously shared during this period of transition. We are all looking forward to having them as part of the department, as we continue to build on the clinical expertise and commitment that Marlborough Radiology Associates has provided to the UMass community.
