Ryan Tai Chosen for AUR IDEA Scholars Program

Ryan Tai, MD, Radiology Department, UMass Chan Medical School
Ryan Tai, MD

Dr. Ryan Tai was selected as one of 24 candidates to participate in the Association of University Radiologists'(AUR) Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Allyship (IDEA) Scholars Program. The program is dedicated to making a significant and long-lasting impact in the lives of patients, teaching programs and departments for years to come.

The program is sponsored by the AUR and is intended to teach participants how to teach topics related to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). There are five sessions, each of which has a theme. For example, the first session covered topics related to systemic racism in the United States. For each session, we are asked to listen to podcasts, read articles, and watch videos relevant to the topic.

The participants are broken down into small groups based on geographic location, and each small group has a leader who facilitates and leads discussion. I am one of the small group leaders for my cohort.

From this program, I am hoping to expand my knowledge base on these topics related to diversity, inclusion, and equity, and to improve my ability to effectively teach others the importance of these topics. I think Radiology lags behind other specialties in making progress on topics related to DEI, and this is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about DEI, especially as it relates to Radiology. This is also a great opportunity to network with other Radiologists with similar interests, and to learn directly from experts in Radiology on DEI.
