Dear Dr. Dundamadappa,

On 12/6/2020, my annual MRI was performed at Shields MRI to determine if my MS was stable.

You interpreted this MRI and found an incidental finding of a " ... concerning mass lesion (squamous cell carcinoma)" and created a yellow alert.

On 12/15, I met the ENT who looked at the lesion through a scope. He did not "think" it was cancer but was concerned and scheduled a biopsy for 12/29/2020. The biopsy results determined that it was Hypopharyngeal Cancer - T2.

This past week was spent meeting the radiation and medical oncologists discussing both radiation and chemotherapy treatment plans. A pet scan is scheduled for Sunday, 1/10 to determine if the cancer spread to the lymph nodes or other parts of my body.

THANK YOU so much for giving me a fighting chance to beat this cancer. Currently, I do not have any symptoms of hypopharyngeal cancer. If this was not discovered by you on the MRI, by the time I had symptoms, it would have been very difficult to treat and retain my quality of life.

I'm not sure what the future holds, if treatment will be successful or not but you gave me a chance. For this, you have my deepest gratitude. Who knew having MS could be a good thing!

You may say this is my job. We all know there are people who do their job poorly and others who are exceptional. You are exceptional!

Thank you again,
