About Us

UMass Chan Medical School is the only public medical school in Massachusetts.  We are dedicated to training the commonwealth’s next generation of urologists.   The Urology Residency Program has been educating medical students and residents for more than thirty years, starting when Mani Menon, MD, joined the UMass faculty in 1982.  The Department of Urology is commiteed to offering an exceptional resident education. The objectives of our residency program are to provide excellent comprehensive clinical training in all aspects of urology and to create an atmosphere and enthusiasm for discovery and service.

Each of our academic faculty has expertise in the diagnosis and management of common and complex urologic disease. We offer comprehensive care for urologic disorders, including: urologic cancers (oncology), stone disease, incontinence, reconstruction of the urinary tract, impotence, prostate diseases, abnormal bladder function, infections of the urinary system, pediatric urology, and complicated deformities of the urinary system. Our faculty has advanced training and proficiency in modern surgical technologies including robotic, laparoscopic, and endoscopic procedures.  The involvement of our faculty in laboratory, translational, and clinical investigation means that we can offer our residents broad exposure to basic and clinical research.  To broaden the educational experience, in addition to the full-time academic faculty, there are community-based urologists who provide training.

We currently offer a five-year training program (a one year general surgery internship followed by a four year urology residency) in which we provide our residents with superlative training opportunities. One position is available for each year.  We do not offer any fellowships.  Interested applicants must apply through the annual AUA match.
