Chancellor Collins releases statement on UMass President Robert Caret's departure

Statement from UMass Medical School Chancellor Michael F. Collins

Robert Caret has had an immeasurable impact on the University of Massachusetts during his tenure as president. His vision for what a great state university can be and his passion for the benefits of a high-quality, accessible education has changed the landscape of public higher education in the commonwealth. He is leaving the University in a position of strength – indeed, his steady hand during economically challenging times is an example of how mature, thoughtful, resilient and energetic leadership can truly make a difference.

It has been a privilege to work closely with him over the past four years and his support of the Medical School has kept us in the forefront of public academic medical centers. Life sciences research and development in Massachusetts will bear the imprint of his leadership for many years into the future, and the entire UMass Medical School community wishes him all the best in what will be an exciting next chapter in his extraordinary career.
