Department of Medicine Unconscious Bias Training

hand between falling dominosThe Department of Medicine recognizes the importance of bringing awareness to unconscious biases and the unintended harmful effects these biases can have in the workplace and in our interactions with patients. Unconscious biases can impact our relationships, decision-making abilities, and our overall experiences.

In this two-part training, instructors will guide participants through the concepts of unconscious bias and provide tools and strategies to disrupt bias in the workplace.

In session one, participants will:

  • Explore why bias matters
  • Learn how to recognize sources of unconscious bias
  • Identify bias in our organization
  • Engage in a discussion regarding microaggressions

In session two, participants will:

  • Engage in a discussion on culturally intelligent strategies to disrupt bias, using examples from the workplace and hospital setting

Each session is one hour and is led by Department of Medicine faculty and staff who have been trained to teach this unconscious bias training. Bringing awareness to unconscious biases is an ongoing endeavor and our trainers enjoy both leading this training and learning from the participants in each of these sessions.

Faculty and staff interested in registering for an upcoming session may do so here. Please note that Session 1 must be completed before registering for Session 2.

If you have questions or would like more information, please reach out to Kaity Lewis.
