Ronghua Zhuge, Ph.D.

Principal Investigator

I am a Professor of Microbiology and Physiological Systems at the UMass Chan Medical School. I received a Bachelor of Science in Veterinary Medicine from Zhejiang University, China, and a doctorate in Physiology from Iowa State University. Since 1999 I have been a faculty member at the UMass Chan, first in the former Department of Physiology and then in Microbiology and Physiological Systems. I have served on grant review panels for the National Institutes of Health, the American Heart Association, the National Science Foundation and several international funding agencies. My research focuses on Ca2+ signaling, ion channels, and bitter taste receptors in neurons, neuroendocrine cells and smooth muscle. My laboratory has been supported by grants from private and federal funding sources, including the American Heart Association, the Charles H. Hood Foundation, and the National Institutes of Health.

I am interested in uncovering the molecular mechanisms which underlie the pathophysiological functions of Ca2+-activated Cl- channel TMEM16A and bitter taste receptors. In my spare time, I enjoy reading.
Ping Lu, Ph.D.

Instructor

I study the molecular mechanisms of how non-pregnant uterus generates peristalsis. Using pharmacological, biophysical and genetic approaches, I identify genes responsible for the peristalsis and determine how they impact reproduction and adenomyosis. I like to go hiking or read books on ancient civilizations in my spare time.
