Education

UMass Chan BuildingThe Division of Community Internal Medicine strongly supports outpatient residency training. More than one-third of the internal medicine residents train at various clinical sites in Worcester County. Twenty-eighty faculty preceptors guide 32 residents in the practice of ambulatory medicine. Residents are paired with individual faculty members (primary preceptors) for their three years of training. Division faculty provide educational experiences to students in both the preclinical and clinical years.

Courses offered and administrated by faculty in
CIM include the following:

  • Longitudinal preceptor program, third-year ambulatory care experience

Several of our faculty serve as medical school mentors and in UMass Chan Medical School curricular leadership roles. Multiple members of our division also hold key leadership roles in both the Offices of Undergraduate Medical Education and Graduate Medical Education. Almost all physicians in our division have educational duties including precepting medical students and residents, and mentoring medical students, residents, and junior faculty. Senior faculty are involved in the development of new curriculum for learners at UMass Chan (specifically within the Internal Medicine Residency Program).
