The ED CDU (Clinical Decision Unit) opened for business in January 2008, originally as a 9-bed unit adjacent to the main ED. The success of that unit led to our department assuming all observational care for the University Campus hospital in a brand new, state-of-the-art 23-bed unit that opened in September 2016. Staffed primarily by Advanced Practice Providers, supervised by attending Emergency Physicians, the unit is predominantly protocol-driven.
