The International Committee works to support a welcoming and inclusive environment for international employees, students, and scholars. In collaboration with the Immigration Services Office of Human Resources, the International Committee works to assure a seamless integration into Massachusetts and the University.

International Committee Potluck The International Committee has had a fruitful year in which they have accomplished many feats. Led by co-chairs José R. Lemos, PhD and Robert Layne, Med, the committee supported International Education Week, a national event sponsored by the U.S. Department of State and the Institute for International Education held annually during the 3rd week of November. They also hosted “The TB talk by Dr. Chris Sassetti on May 24th, 2018. They hosted a Summer Welcoming Potluck Event on June 22, 2018 from 4:00pm to 6:00pm at Quinsigamond Lake (regatta) table pavilion area to welcome all international students, staff, and faculty where over 30 people including students and scholars attended. Countries represented at the potluck included Brazil, Canada, China, the Czech Republic, India, Iran, and Turkey. This year they have also pioneered a committee to discuss a potential UMASS “Suitcase Stories” series, in which some employees tell their own stories of how they arrived here on campus. For the upcoming year, they hope to host a Spring Scientific Seminar with a focus on international health and research. They also wish to host a summer or fall event that will promote networking, cultural understanding and diversity. In November 2018, they seek to support International Education Week with events that celebrate our international population. The International Committee will be welcoming a new co-chair in September, Vanessa Paulman, as one of the current co-chairs, José Lemos, PhD retires.
