The Professional Women’s Committee (PWC) had a successful 2016-2017 year. The committee, along with co-chairs Tammy LeBlanc and Carla Diaz, sponsored and hosted a variety of events for the UMMS and UMMHC communities. The PWC gained 21 new members from Scrafft’s Center and 20 from Worcester and Shrewsbury. The group hosted Myths and Realities of Mentoring with Dr. Thorndyke which attracted 40 people. Three newsletters were published this year from the committee. Brion Carroll spoke to a group of Managing Your Career at UMMS with 25 people attending. The group hosted a presentation on Social Media Platforms with a discussion that was led by Myra Zhinin with 26 people in attendance. The committee’s annual Dress For Success Collection and Sale was held this past year and the event raised over $2,700 in total. The PWC co-sponsored with the Women’s Faculty Committee on the Women’s History Month Event. The event included a slide show highlighting accomplishments of women at UMMS and the event brought 122 people to attend. The committee co-sponsored with CWM CDC on the “A Dialogue: Thoughts about Leadership from a Woman’s Perspective” with Dr. Marianne Felice speaking. A Zentangle Class was held at South Street with over 25 people participating. The PWC also collaborated with the Women’s Faculty Committee to establish a Mother’s Room in the Albert Sherman Center. Some goals that the committee has for the upcoming year are to publish three newsletters, work with Human Resources to initiate a mentoring program for newly hired staff, and use social media to allow professional women to share news and ideas.
