Post-Graduate Training Opportunities

Extensive research opportunities are available for post-doctoral fellows and medical residents in the Department of Cell Biology. A number of senior scientists pursue sabbatical research in laboratories of departmental investigators. Although post-graduates usually devote full time to research, opportunities are available for participation in medical and graduate course teaching. Many post-doctoral fellows in the Department of Cell Biology have been awarded highly competitive fellowships from the National Institutes of Health and numerous private foundations. In the course of post-doctoral training, the department provides a prime environment for: gaining experience in a broad spectrum of state-of-the-art cellular and molecular experimental approaches; presenting findings in informal groups, research seminars and at national meetings; and interacting with other laboratories and industry-related groups.

Post-doctoral associates are encouraged to present their data at scientific meetings. Attending a national meeting is excellent opportunity to improve presentation skills, network with colleagues, and discuss your science with the leaders in the field. In addition, many of the scientific meetings offer travel awards to students and post-docs to offset the costs to attend the meeting.
