Miller Lab awarded NIH R21 grant from National Institute of General Medical Sciences

Date Posted: Tuesday, September 08, 2020

Stephen Miller PhDThe Miller lab was awarded an Exploratory Research for Technology Development R21 from NIGMS to develop novel classes of compact fluorescent probes.

Dyes that fluoresce beyond the visible wavelength region are ideal for biological imaging. Because there are few endogenous chromophores capable for absorbing wavelengths over 700 nm, there is less attenuation of the optical signal, lower phototoxicity, and less autofluorescence background. This high-risk high-reward NIH grant will explore the feasibility of novel classes of compact near-infrared fluorescent probes for detecting and imaging biological events.
