Roshanak AslebaghRoshanak Aslebagh, a postdoctoral associate in Professor Scott Shaffer’s lab at the Mass Spectrometry Facility, addressed more than 400 attendees in the Qualitative Biomarkers session of the American Society for Mass Spectrometry Conference held in Atlanta, GA (June 2-6, 2019). Dr. Aslebagh described an untargeted metabolomics approach to identify pharmacodynamic biomarkers in urine from children with autism spectrum disorder treated with sulforaphane. Sulforaphane, an isothiocyanate derived from cruciferous vegetables, has been implicated in reducing of behavioral symptoms of autism; however, little is known about its mechanism.
