William Royer, Ph.D. Awarded R01 Grant from NIH

The laboratory of Dr. William Royer has been awarded a four-year NIH grant to study the co-transcriptional protein CtBP, a potential cancer target.  CtBP is upregulated in a broad range of cancer cells, where it acts to repress expression of a number of tumor suppressors, thus promoting cell growth and metastasis.  In collaboration with UMass colleagues, Dr. Celia Schiffer and Dr. Akbar Ali, and Dr. Steven Grossman at Virginia Commonwealth University, the Royer lab will use these funds to design small molecule inhibitors of CtBP as a first step in the development of novel therapeutic agents for a broad range of cancers.
