Welcome message by Celia A. Schiffer, PhD, Professor & Chair

Josue Flores KimI’m thrilled to welcome Josué Flores Kim, PhD, to the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biotechnology at UMass Chan Medical School.  Josué joins us from Harvard Medical School where he was a postdoctoral associate in Microbiology in the laboratories of David Z. Rudner, PhD, and Thomas Bernhardt, PhD.  His research focused on understanding the mechanisms that control the activity of bacterial cell wall hydrolases in the Gram-positive pathogen Streptococcus pneumoniae.  Previously he completed his doctoral research in 2014 at New York University under the mentorship of Andrew J. Darwin, PhD.  In his own laboratory, he plans to further define the regulatory networks that control cell envelope biogenesis in Gram-positive bacteria and use biochemical strategies toward the discovery of new antibiotics.
