The Department of Medicine at the University of Massachusetts Medical School includes over 200 sponsored research faculty conducting more than $25M of medical research within its 19 divisions. 

The department successfully competes for research funding with notable agencies including the National Institutes of Health (NIH), American Diabetes Association (ADA), Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Center for Disease Control (CDC), Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), National Science Foundation (NSF), Arthritis National Research Foundation (ANRF), along with many sub-award, foundation and industry sponsored projects.

The department has 46,000 sq ft of laboratory and service space and, in addition, we have designated clinical and non-laboratory space for research in Eepidemiology, Stress Reduction, Obesity, other Preventive and Behavioral Studies as well as many clinical cooperative and industry trials in cancer, gastroenterology, cardiovascular medicine, diabetes, endocrinology, infectious diseases, tobacco cessation, pulmonary, renal medicine, dermatology, and hematology.
