Hahnemann Family Health Center

Our Center

What We Offer

The Hahnemann Family Health Center (Lincoln Street) is located in a state-of-the-art facility within the Hahnemann Hospital Campus of UMass Memorial Health Care. On-site radiology services allow residents to "wet-read" initial x-ray evaluations. A full-time laboratory department also contributes to the convenience of the site for patients. The health center has a busy obstetrical practice that stresses family-centered maternity care. Residents follow their obstetric patients longitudinally and attend their deliveries at the Memorial Campus supervised by their own Lincoln Street faculty. In addition to family-centered maternity care, we are committed to providing a full spectrum of reproductive health options. Residents have the opportunity to learn several outpatient procedures including colposcopy, vasectomy, IUD insertion/removal, endometrial biopsy, joint injections, skin excisions, and others. Longitudinal care of nursing home and homebound patients is included in the curriculum. Residents are also involved in longitudinal practice improvement and community outreach projects. We host weekly Sports Medicine Clinics, Psychology clinics, and Psychiatry clinics as well as monthly Podiatry and OB/GYN consultation clinics within the Health Center, adding to the education of our residents and convenience for our patients.

The Communities We Serve

We serve an ethnically and socioeconomically diverse urban population. The majority of the patients cared for at the health center reside in Worcester and the surrounding areas. Over 50% of the patients participate in the state Medicaid program or are uninsured and covered under our free-care program. They represent the most vulnerable individuals in our society. We are proud of the difference we make in caring for their health problems related to urban poverty, including intravenous drug abuse, violence, malnutrition, teen pregnancy, lead toxicity, and others. Our patients include blue and white collar workers, stay-at-home parents, students, lawyers and other professionals. The cultural mix of Hahnemann Health Center's patients reflects the ethnic diversity of Worcester. We care for a proportionate number of Latinos, African Americans, Southeast Asians, and immigrants from the Middle East, Eastern Europe, and Africa. Our patients have access to a very reliable and proficient Translation Service as needed.

Our Commitment to Residents

Case conferences (chart rounds) take place daily. Noontime topical conferences, specialty consultants, and medical students provide a stimulating academic environment. The health center staff consists of eight full-time Board-Certified Family Physicians, two nurse practitioners, a clinical psychologist, a post-doctoral psychology fellow, a clinical pharmacy faculty member, fifteen family practice residents, and a large nursing and office staff. A quality educational training experience in a supportive environment is the foundation of our program. Academic excellence is promoted by a team of award-winning teachers and practitioners.
