Clinical and Outcomes Research
The University of Massachusetts Department of Surgery has active research underway in the area of clinical, translational, and outcomes research. The Center for Outcomes Research (COR), directed by Dr. Fred Anderson, has expertise in large national and international registries and is ideally set up to collect and analyze data to determine real-world practices for both academic and industry-related aims.
The Surgical Outcomes Analysis & Research (SOAR) group, under the direction of Jennifer F. Tseng, MD, MPH, is an academically-focused outcomes research laboratory which seeks to determine the components necessary for optimal care of patients with a broad spectrum of disease. Active collaborations with basic scientists at UMass and at other institutions are a key to SOAR success.
The establishment of a robust UMass Department of Surgery clinical trials/clinical research and device development program is underway, under the leadership of Shimul A. Shah, MD, in collaboration with Dr. Tseng and SOAR.
