INCOMING STUDENTS SUMMER ORIENTATION

Summer Orientation for the Class of 2013

Congratulations on your acceptance to UMass Medical School. We are anxiously awaiting your arrival.

The Orientation is an informal program geared toward giving you an opportunity to meet our current first year medical students, faculty and the accepted students of the Class of 2013. You are more than welcome to bring your family / friends / significant other; however, we suggest you bring your own car w if you’d like to attend the ‘After Orientation Get Together’ that will be held at Boston Billiards.

 Orientation Schedule:

9:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. - Registration (Medical School Lobby)
During Registration, the current first year students will host a Q & A table to answer any questions you may have. MOE [ the UMass. Outdoor Experience] will also be available to answer questions and give you an opportunity to sign up for the MOE trip. We've also invited property managers from nearby condo complexes to attend. These condos are very convenient and many first year students end up living in them; however don't feel rushed to sign anything. If you have the time, talk to current first year students and check out the various properties around Worcester, many are advertised on the bulletin board across from the Student Lounge.  There are some great housing opportunities that are very affordable in the Worcester area.

10:15 a.m. - Introductions and Formal Presentation
Introductions and Welcomes from some of our Deans who are very eager to meet you and share some of the great opportunities awaiting you here at UMass.

11:30 a.m. - Roomates and Housing Presentation
Current first year students have prepared a presentation on roommates and housing for you. During this time your guests will have the opportunity to take a 45-minute tour [similar to the one you had when you interviewed here] and will re-join you at the BBQ.

12:30 p.m. - 1:30p.m. - BBQ
Meet your second year buddy and other accepted students.

1:45 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. - Life of a UMass medical student
First year students have planned presentations / skits that will give you a look into the life of a UMass medical student

We sincerely hope you’ll be able to attend. It is a great way to meet the current first year students as well as the accepted members of the Class of 2013. 

In order to help us prepare for orientation, we are requesting that you fill out the forms below [Buddy form, RSVP form, and the Roommate Questionnaire if you're interested in finding a roommate). Please return completed forms to judy.holewa@umassmed.edu. E-mail is prefererred however, if returning via U.S. Postal service, please mark the envelope ‘Summer Orientation.’

If you are unable to attend the Summer Orientation, you should still return your completed forms. Your roommate information will be distributed on 5/30 and mailed to anyone who can’t be here. You’ll also receive your Second Year Buddy’s name and will be able to e-mail your Buddy over the summer.
