Elective Description:  The 4th year student will spend each day with the Pediatric Hospitalist.  Daily rounds will be conducted in the morning on all inpatients on the Hanshaw Inpatient Pediatric Service (usually 6-8 patients).  One-on-one discussion about the pathophysiology and treatment of pediatric diseases will be stressed.  Daily didactics will also be offered.  Other aspectis of an inpatient experience will also be offered (acute care in , assisting with procedural sedations, communication and followup with community primary care physicians).  This elective is not a subinternship, rather a chance for 4th year students to consolidate their pediatric knowledge through one –on-one interaction with the Hanshaw Hospitalists.  There will be no call, but the student will be expected to round with the Hospitalist on call at least one weekend of the month and must be able to work in the at least twice during the month ( 6pm-midnight).
