Elective Description: The Center for Adolescent Health provides both primary and consultative care for adolescents in the community. This adolescent medicine elective will provide students with the opportunity to learn comprehensive care of the adolescent using both a primary care and a multidisciplinary team approach. Students will be exposed to primary care and simple gynecological care of adolescents in the community. They will also get the opportunity to be a part of a multidisciplinary team, consisting of psychologists, social workers, dieticians, nurse practitioners, liaison psychiatrists, and adolescent medicine providers in the more complex care of adolescent with eating disorders, obesity, ADHD and other mental health issues. One day per week they will be expected to visit and participate in activities sponsored by the center in two local schools, working with the school nurses and a nurse practitioner at our school based center. They will also be expected to take on a small research project during their month at the Center and present initial results at the end of their elective. Guidance will be provided for the same. The elective will be offered September – June of each year.
